Privacy
Tonari is software for small, self-managed homeowners' associations. This page explains what information Tonari keeps, why, who can see it, and how to have it removed. Questions: hello@tonarihoa.com.
What we keep
- About members: names, email addresses, phone numbers (only if someone chooses texts), which units they own, and how they prefer to be reached. Passwords are never stored, only a one-way scrambled form of them.
- About the association's bank account, once its head connects it through Stripe: the bank's name, the account's name and last four digits, its balance, its transactions, and the account holder's name and address (to confirm the account belongs to the association). Tonari never sees or stores the bank login, and never sees the full account or routing number.
- What the association adds: issues, photos, quotes, votes, notices, documents, notes, and the association's email.
- Dues payments, once paying through Tonari is available: Stripe handles the payment and holds the bank details; Tonari keeps only the amount, date and status.
- To keep sign-in safe: a cookie that keeps you signed in, and, for 15 minutes after a failed sign-in, the network address it came from. There are no advertising or tracking cookies and no analytics.
How we use it
Only to run Tonari for the association: showing members the balance and where the money goes, matching payments to each home's dues, sending reminders and notices, running issues and votes, and keeping accounts secure. We do not sell or rent anyone's information, and there are no ads.
Who can see it
- The association's members see its balance, its transactions, its issues, votes and documents. That openness is the point of Tonari.
- The association's email is seen only by its head.
- Nobody, including Tonari, ever sees full bank account or routing numbers.
- Companies that run parts of Tonari for us, and only for that: Stripe (bank connections and payments) and Cloudflare (hosting, storage and email). They may not use the information for anything else.
- Anyone the law requires us to share it with.
Where it is kept
In the United States, on Cloudflare. Bank connections and payments are handled by Stripe.
How long
For as long as the association uses Tonari. Disconnecting the bank stops Tonari reading it; what was already read stays, as part of the association's records. When an association leaves, or a member asks, we delete their information within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep.
Your choices
- The association's head can disconnect the bank at any time, in Tonari or with the bank.
- Anyone can ask for a copy of their information, a correction, or its deletion, at hello@tonarihoa.com.
This website
Until Tonari opens, this site collects nothing from visitors. If you email us, we keep your message to reply to it. Its fonts are served by Google Fonts.
Children
Tonari is for adults who own homes in an association. It is not meant for anyone under 18.
